trail popularity

Here is a little rant on the popularity of trails now, it's just an opinion so take it as it is. It seems like everywhere in magazines, internet, and videos trails are making a come back, which is rad. It seems that in other countries it really is a main part of riding. As for in the states here, I think it's the opposite. With bikes being sold without brakes now almost every young kid gets into riding brakeless and just strictly rides street. There is no problem in that but it almost seems like a trend and if your not doing that then why bother riding. The internet really shows that everyone is just riding brakeless and nibbling around. Half the kids don't even know what trails are anymore or how to even jump anything with tranny. Back in the 90s trails were the big thing and its what all kids started out at. Now most trail riders in the states are over 25. The problem I see happening is no young kids getting into trail riding and most trails being take care of by people who wont be riding much longer makes you wonder if in a few years down the line if trails will even exist here. Just by making videos every year you can really see how no one is interested in buying trail videos in the states and mostly the video sells in other countries. Basically in a nut shell just trying to say more kids should try to explore bike riding more and bring the fun back into trails and hopefully get more trails popping up in the states. It would be a shame to see all the trails die out because its portrayed to just ride street and not have brakes anymore. Will see what happens in the coming summers, or as some say this can all be a blessing in disguise. ride on..

Comments:
trails will never die. not everyone takes things for granted, i mean some people will always love creating they're own fun.
but also trails is not displayed how it ought to be unless you happen to meet somone who does it like most of us have been brought in by. it really sucks to be the only builder and rider in your area.

well said Chris & Lee ya pretty much hit the nail on the head! Most kids just don't wanna dig, same prob here in NZ to much hard work for 'em, but they'll turn up once the works done tho. It's all handed to them on a plate ie concrete parks & street. I really hope trails don't die out in the USA, you guy's started that buzz! I'm 35 know & i rekon i got 5-10 more years left in me, if i'm lucky. Roast'in trails is the best feeling & no real impact on the body...unless ya eat it! Trails for life! Cheers heaps for all the inspiration PA! Respect is so due!!

I think kids also want an audience nowdays. They want to hang at the mcdonalds doin bunny hop 180s to show off for the milfs or grind some rail just to piss of the grown ups. When we were kids our whole goal was to get away from grown ups and hide in the woods all day with no kind of supervision at all.

As far as the age thing goes, I will be 41 in the spring and my passion to build and ride burns stronger than ever. I just have to pick my battles. Taking slams to the flat bottom is just not a option anymore.

Good scene in Epsom, UK. Good set of young uns from 13 up, all digging, most getting through as well.
