save the woods

It's good to see a lot of people are signing the petition, but the bad news is we are running out of time and the landowners don't care about a petition they just want to not be liable. So basically I need help trying to figure out how to get insurance for the woods, whether it be liability insurance or some kind of way to get insurance that skateparks have. I was thinking about how in the US there are no legit trails that are safe from plowing, but 9th street in Texas came to mind and I would like to know how they exist liability wise. I have been emailing a lot of people and have no got much feedback so that sucks. Plain and simple we need insurance and somehow out there has got to have some answers so please help out in any way. Everyone can be invited to the trails if we get this worked out, and an after party at Dunny's house. The trail scene doesn't need another set back, now let's get this figured out. As a bonus I posted up a bunch of photos from this past summer, all taken by Brian Barnhart the new photo pro. enjoy..

Hi janis, i have some stuff to say about the insurance issue, i hope it helps.

first: i think you might get proper advice from the council, citizens advice bureau or bmx clubs who own a bmx track-as the trails could be seen as something similar.

second: i dont think you can get some insurance that councils have for their puplic sport facilities-they have liability insurance but have to but up warning sign and fences-also like skateparks and race tracks have to been built to certain measurements seen as safe to be accepted by the insurer.

however what i could suggest is-do it the way it works for instance the wisley trails in england or my old place in germany. You need to set up a bmx club and all the locals need to be members, these members pay money from which you can pay the insurance for the clubmembers ..now you and the members are insured to ride at (contests, competitions) and TRAINING at the trails.
and
Now the airport has someone responsible (the club) which they can give or let the land to that the trails are on (make a contract)plus now they have someone official (chairperson of the club) to speak to.

left with 2 problems: first: other people who want to ride.
second: third party people like dog walkers and Kids.

first: you could say that as its your club land where the trails are on that noone else can ride only people who are insured by another clubs or insured themselfes..in reality you just let your friends ride as the airport wont check and they wont know anyway

second: third party people you dont know .. whether there might be a third party insurance for a club track available, i dont know, if bmx clubs can insure their track against third party incidents you have to check that( there is another problem that trails are not a track which is built to certain regulations=trails never fit in there) soo: first when you can as a club rent the land you then agree that liability is in your hands including claims from third party injuries. you also can put up signs saying: dangerous area belongs to bmx club "xyz"; dont enter area or you will be procecuted ..private land signs etc. you can chain up run ups ..or fence the whole place off which is probably too expensive these reqirements you have to agree with your landownwer-he might not care as when you rent the land you are responsible ..find out what the airport thinks is secure for them.

hope that wasnt too confusing
feel free to email me at sturmbahntrls@gmx.de

good luck janis

german pete has the right idea with setting up a club--any potential insurance company wants reassurance that those riding know the rules & regulations, and have agreed to them before joining the club. And just like a skatepark, even a formal waiver may be signed to prove to the insurance company that this is official & people will abide by rules in order to ride. I know it sucks when it comes down to money & politics, but they just want to see proof that in certain instances, they won't be held liable because it's their land.

german pete has the right ideas,
my son races bmx,he builds his own smaller trails and loves your trails and considers them the best anywhere,
anyway you could contact Mr. Glen Knapper from Trilogy Park BMX in Pottstown, he is the track operator there, probably the finest on the east coast. Website is www.trilogypark.org
he may be able to help from his experience or point you to someone who could... keep shoveling...

i hope you guy's can get that shit sorted..... plows=not cool

Ok i think i have an idea of how to save the woods can we just get a waver that each person signs saying basically if u get hurt its not there fault and for the people who dont sign the waver if they get hurt and they check to see did u sign the waver and they didnt they cant sue i think that would work if u know what i mean. And if they try to say i dint know there was a waver put a sign up in front of trail entranbcec saying about signing the waver and if u get hurt its ur own fault 4 not signing the waver.
